The Demoness.
The Demoness, formerly known as Lily Bulcher, is the antagonist in Artifical, created by Fukuro.
She is one of the oldest artificially created humans, known as "Dolls". Due to her immortality and impressive longevity, she came to view herself as a God and believe to be the one true judge. Her goal in life is to cleanse the world of evil, which entails erasing all organic life. Her defeat is the main goal for many of the main characters.

Past
Lily lived most of her childhood with her father, while being on the run from the government for creating her. He worked hard to give her the life he believed she deserves, while keeping her ignorant of her true existence. She was convinced to be an unsuspicious, normal human being. This lasted until his untimely death from a combination of stress, poor nutrition, and radiation poisoning. The young woman had to fend for herself for the first time, marking the the start of her descent in life.

While fending for herself wasn't difficult due to her Doll nature, the suffering of others and witnessing humanity's cruelty in general took a huge number on her. Despite her pessimism, though, she still wished to see the good in people and tried to find a light of hope in the dark world.
It eventually faded once a town she had so grown fond of was burnt to the ground, and the few friends she had made were found riddled with arrows and bullets. Sick of the wars and despair, she snapped and strived to rid the world of "civilized" life, believing it to be the sole reason for the suffering of each and every creature.

Lily was born tall and reaches to at least 7 feet (213 cm) at her current age. Her eyes were originally black, but are now a sharp crimson-red color, which marks her status as an "awakened Doll" and gives her a more youthful appearance and higher potential in her abilities.
She has unruly, long black hair with a purple hue she normally ties in a high ponytail.
Though she appears mostly humanoid, there are key features that distinct her from the average human, such as her fangs, pointed ears, and her green-tinted skin. Lily tried to trim her pointed ears herself, giving them a human-like appearance in order to better disguise herself in public.
Her body has an androgynous look; with a slim, but muscular build to it. She has all sorts of scars all over her body, the most prominent one being the massive scar in the center of her chest. She personally favors body-forming clothing.

Dolls and Lily's creation
Dolls are clones of deceased people who have the personality and memories of the original person, but Lily is unique over the fact she was created from the remains of a stillborn baby. Her personality and experiences are her own.
The infant used was the child of a scientist in charge of secretive human experiments, including that of Dolls. After realizing the Dolls were doing more harm than good to the human race, and a huge controversy over their unnatural existence started after it got leaked to the public, the government stopped the process and marked them as taboo. Creating Dolls was now illegal, prompting the persecution of their kind and those involved.
Despite knowing the extreme risks and dangers of creating a Doll, the scientist was blinded by grief over his dead wife and their stillborn child, and went on to create Lily. She was one of the last Dolls created.
Trivia
- The Demoness was originally written to be a one-time character, similar to a "monster of the day" kind of role (with actually using Lily as her name). When Artificial officially developed a main plot, she was still only chosen because there was no one else to fill the role of the main antagonist.
- Major changes have been done to The Demoness due to this change of roles such as appearance, personality and motivation.
- The Demoness's major influence in both design and personality comes from a mixture of Envy from Fullmetal Alchemist, Medusa from Soul Eater and Naraku from Inuyasha.
- Although she is mostly referred to as she/her by everyone, her gender and sex is never clarified. Though the sex of the infant she was mainly created from was female, there is the possibility of other DNA contaminating the creation process, including the creator's own DNA. As for her gender, its assumed its not one of major importance to her.
- Her age is not clear but assumed to be at least 400 years old, as she was created at the start of the 'New Era', making her to be the oldest character in the cast.
