General Details

She is a "living television channel", born on April 29, 1977. Since that time she's underwent different changes to her programming format and gone though four different owners, who all granted her different names, with her current one being "Freeform". On October 6, 2016, Disney–ABC Television Group (her cousin) announced this change to her.

During the her presentation on April 14, 2015, ABC Family executives announced that she was going to focus on "becomers"; a group termed by network representatives to refer to millennials. Their president, Tom Ascheim, explained the term: "The most important question that young people ask themselves as they're going from high school to their thirties is 'Who am I becoming?', so we call this life stage 'becoming' and the people going through it 'Becomers'".
Having that said, Freeform was redesigned to appeal more to college students, young women, and "hip audiences" in general.

An extensive campaign to promote the rebrand kicked off on the same date and encompassed her popular 13 Nights of Halloween and 25 Days of Christmas blocks during the fourth quarter.

As of 2020, Freeform reaffirmed her commitment to LGBT audiences.
